Activity Guide

MIIS Custom Language Services

In November 2014, I had the pleasure of being the activity guide for a group of 14 Taiwanese diplomats, who were learning English at the Monterey Institute. I traveled with the Marketing and Tourism group to meetings in Monterey, Pacific Grove, and San Francisco. Additionally, I helped host a beach barbecue and an evening soiree. I also gathered materials for their arrival and helped secure vendors for our event in San Francisco.

TEACHING ENGLISH

TEFL certified with specialization in English for Children and Business English (100hr)

EFL Teacher & Lead Teacher

The American Home

During the 2013-2014 school year, I taught EFL in the small city of Vladimir, Russia. New teachers participated in a month long teacher development course that highlighted best teaching practices to use in Russia.  While there, I taught lower-intermediate, advanced, and advanced conversation courses. I developed a semester-long curriculum for the highest level course, and led a year-long business English course. In addition to my classroom responsibilities, I organized and implemented six school parties and weekly events throughout the year as lead teacher.

EFL Teaching Intern

The London School in Bishkek

From January 2013-June 2013, I interned at the London School in Bishkek. The London School is known for its partnership with the School of Russian and Asian Studies (SRAS). Through the partnership, the London School hosts American students who want to learn Central Asian languages and Russian; however, this school also provides English lessons for the local population. As an intern, I taught two 1.5 hour lower-intermediate classes four days a week. I developed the curriculum and assessment for my students. As well as teaching, the internship program included a two-week teacher development course, 3 hours of Russian language learning four days a week, and a weekly Kyrgyz culinary class.

EFL Teaching Volunteer

Teach and Learn in Georgia

For the fall semester of 2012, I joined the Teach and Learn in Georgia program as an EFL teaching volunteer in Chumlaki Village, Georgia. I assisted three English teachers with verbal and listening exercises for children ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. Additionally, I was a monthly cultural contributor the Ministry of Education and Science’s blog, “Making a Difference.”
